The Brotherhood – Part 49

The Brotherhood of the Second Cross was established on Father’s Day 2005 where 160 men stood before their wives and children to pledge themselves to purity, self-sacrifice, loyalty, and excellence. Today, hundreds more have joined the commitment.

A man’s word is his bond.

Remember that? I can remember TV shows that underscored this moral idea. They affirmed that dealing honestly with people gave you a name that could be trusted. Yes, believe it or not, there was a time when people were actually focused on dealing honestly with one another.

Today, lies and manipulations are all fair game–especially if they are connected to a greater good. “It’s just business,” is the mantra of the dishonest. Getting ahead and getting what you want are justifications for all sorts of deeds a former generation would find repulsive. Today, the ends justify the means, even if the ends have only a selfish result.

I suppose that leaves us to decide what kind of men we will be. Are we content to play the game the way others play, with no regard for integrity and righteousness, or are we willing to commit to an ethic others won’t choose?

People say that trust is the most important component of a relationships. Unfortunately, what those people usually mean is for others to be trustworthy while they acts for their own benefit. Little wonder political games are more common than integrity in most workplaces.

What’s the point of defending absolute truth if we aren’t willing to be people who live by the truth?

We’ve exposed the lies of leaders at every level in every industry, but are we excused then in our own dishonesty? “Everybody’s doing it” never worked with my mom and I’m thinking it doesn’t work with God either.

Be a man of truth–a man whose word can be trusted–a man who doesn’t lie to get his way. You may get outgunned by a few crafty devils, but you’ll leave a legacy others can truly stand on.
