The Brotherhood of the Second Cross was established on Father’s Day 2005 where 160 men stood before their wives and children to pledge themselves to purity, self-sacrifice, loyalty, and excellence. Today, hundreds more have joined the commitment.
Are you a man of your word?
That used to matter in our culture. People came to expect that a real man would tell the truth, would be forthcoming with honest response, would step up when lesser men hid in the shadows.
But few such men exist today. Modern times have manufactured men who will say anything to get ahead, men who cut corners and take advantage of any edge they can find. It’s every man for himself today, and anarchy is only a few steps away.
Where did integrity go?
Did we let it go when presidents lied and tried to cover up truth? Did it slip away when ministers were found to have lived differently than their robes implied? Did it slip away when corporate greed dominated the news pages? Someone along the path of the last few decades, the honest man found an excuse to shift into another gear.
So today, trust barely has a heartbeat. Few can be counted on to do what is right, unless they see benefit in doing so. Few nations are exalted by the righteousness once promised. The old adage–there’s no honor among thieves–ultimately defines our predicament.
But we are not powerless against integrity’s free fall. Each of us have the opportunity to stand against this current, and if we stand together, soon we’ll find strength to begin swimming up this stream. But that day can only come if a man will stand for what is right, even when everyone else is basking in the riches of doing what’s wrong.
Who will that man be? Will it be you?
