The Brotherhood of the Second Cross was established on Father’s Day 2005 where 160 men stood before their wives and children to pledge themselves to purity, self-sacrifice, loyalty, and excellence. Today, hundreds more have joined the commitment.
My day started with a celebration of fellow employees who’ve given long service to our organization. As each was honored for 5, 10, even 45 years of service, I couldn’t help but be impressed with the faithfulness and determined continuity of these friends.
But one guy stood out to me, a bit more than the rest. He’s an IT guy who’d been in the team for decades. As he was interviewed, he talked about his early years fixing typewriters. Today, he handles our corporation’s needs in the digital world, and I couldn’t help but think how has he kept pace with such enormous change?
Seriously, how do you grow and learn at a sufficient pace to stay abreast of all that’s changing? You do that by prioritizing excellence.
Excellence is one of our commitments in the Brotherhood. We commit to excellence for ourselves, knowing that only as I give my absolute best will I find the life I really want. Taking shortcuts or sloughing off doesn’t bring quality of life.
So today, I applaud Bruce and Pete and Tim and all those who work hard to keep up with each day’s new challenges and opportunities. We are living the future, and only those who commit to excellence will be prepared as it comes.
