The Brotherhood of the Second Cross was established on Father’s Day 2005 where 160 men stood before their wives and children to pledge themselves to purity, self-sacrifice, loyalty, and excellence. Today, hundreds more have joined the commitment.
Purity is the first commitment of our Brotherhood–a gift we give to our wives (future wives and our Savior). It’s a decision to keep our hearts focused in a single direction. The potential snares of impurity surround us on all fronts, but we know that the path to the life we really want turns sharply away from such options.
But keeping pure demands more than just good intentions.
We must aggressively battle the temptations that easily arise in our daily lives. The accessibility of impure thoughts and sexually-charged entertainment poses a great threat to those who remain casual in the battle. Today, it’s easy (and some say guilt-free) to steal a few moments with a website or an unhealthy conversation. If you will remain pure, you can’t dangle a toe in such waters.
The Bible promises us that when we are tempted, a way of escape is nearby. But, as we have often said, that exit ramp comes in the first moments of the temptation. You can turn away, but do it quickly ’cause the longer you linger, the harder it is to ultimately say “no.”
Guys, my point today is that we all take such a challenge seriously. As Job put it, make a deal with your eyes not to look lustfully on a woman (31:1). Be intentional and you can guard your heart. But such determination doesn’t simply keep you from trouble, it also brings greater joy to the right relationship in your life. When we live in purity, the good things become greater.
So don’t be lazy, but act radically with temptations toward impurity. If you do, you’re going to like the result!
