Some might see this as Jesus teaching a righteousness by works ideal, but remember God’s words to Cain, “If you do what is right…” Cain’s failure wasn’t in failing to bring an offering, but in the attitude of his heart when doing so. The pride, disrespect, or whatever he was feeling, opened the door for the sin that was “crouching” nearby. A heart of humility, and a complete dependence on Christ is our answer. Remember that “Abraham believed God and it was credited to Him as righteousness.”
