58. Meanwhile his disciples urged him, “Rabbi, eat something” (John 4:31).
In one translation, the meanwhile is expanded to say that when the disciples returned, they saw Him talking to the woman, but no one asked about it. Really? Jesus talking to a Samaritan woman, especially one with such a history, and no one thinks its worth asking about? It seems their minds were on lunch. At least that’s what they say to Him. “Eat something.” Wow! I wonder how often our thoughts are fixed on our stomachs or our other stuff when Jesus is at work around us bringing life-change? Sure, lunch matters, but what Jesus is doing and wants us to be doing should be our greater focus, right? Seek first the kingdom, and Jesus promised to handle lunch.
