50. Sir, I can see that you are a prophet (John 4:19).
Our first grasp of God is His knowledge. We can immediately perceive that He knows us and he knows everything about us. Perhaps it is our fear of such revelation that drives our thoughts. After all, the ability to know the hidden or unknown is a threat when aimed in our direction. As with this woman, God’s knowledge of us exposes our weakness, our hurt, perhaps even our failure. The deepest scars of her life are laid bare in the first moments of her first encounter. She must deal with these issues for they are the barrier between her heart and what God wants to do in her. Jesus’ identification of her sin isn’t to judge or scorn, but to remove and to love. That’s how God uses His complete insight.
