- “But the Counselor, whom the Father will send in my name…” (John 14:26a).
One is coming, Jesus says–One who will teach you all things. The promise of the Holy Spirit is the central theme Jesus takes up in the latter third of His ministry. This “Counselor” or “Comforter” will step in and fill the gap His own departure will create. And this Holy Spirit will baptize Jesus’ followers with His power. This is His work. While Christ came to provide salvation and a path to the Father, the Holy Spirit will come and launch the disciples to global destinations previously unimagined. The Father’s plan is in action, redeeming mankind and reclaiming the Earth from the “Prince of this world.”
