Notes from the Journey with the Disciples – 245

  1. “the world cannot accept Him because it neither sees Him nor knows Him” (John 14:17).

Here is the relational reality of the Holy Spirit–those who don’t know Him cannot accept Him. Yet again, Jesus shows us that a relationship with God requires faith. We cannot see God, the living Christ, or the Spirit He has sent. But we must believe. Only when we believe can we really know the One in whom we have believed. Knowledge and understanding are never the final refuge for those who trust in Christ. It is that trust that will form their foundation. This is the faith Noah demonstrated, the faith Abram embraced, the faith Daniel held to in a foreign place. To believe in what one cannot see, or more accurately–the One one cannot see. This is what it means to believe in God. It’s more than a creation/salvation story to adhere to. He has provided a living and powerful relationship that can only be entered into by faith.
