213. “Lord, are you going to wash my feet?” (John 13:6)
Peter has likely watched Jesus move around the room, but somehow still seems surprised when his Master kneels at his own feet. How can Jesus wash my feet? It’s a legitimate question for each of us. We know ourselves, we know our own weaknesses. The idea that Jesus’ gift of cleansing means “me too” is an extraordinary thought. I can easily see how He might find reason to love others, but it’s a bigger step to believe that such love is available to me as well. And yet…it is.
