Notes from the Journey with the Disciples – 203

  1. “I, when I am lifted up from the earth, will draw all men unto myself” (John 12:32).

This is Jesus’ description of the moment of victory. Satan will be driven out, ultimately in the final days of judgment, but the real conquering moment was only days away. The crucifixion, a seemingly tragic defeat of all the dreams Jesus had helped others reach for, will actually be the moment God’s long plan crosses into the win column. Certainly, that moment didn’t seem like victory for those who watched it unfold. But that’s the way faith wins–it steps forward with confidence when there seems to be no foundation for such belief. And in that moment, victory is recorded in the unseen plan of God.
