Notes from the Journey with the Disciples – 188

  1. He did not say this on his own (John 11:51).

Interesting statement concerning the high priest’s idea that one man dying would be better for everyone. It seems that John wants his readers to see God’s plan at work here. He clearly implies that God placed an idea in this man’s heart that would catalyze the crucifixion. Once the high priest had convinced himself and others that Jesus needed to die, there was no turning back. For John, God is at work in every element of this story. He clearly understands that there is a plan unfolding and that Jesus’ death wasn’t simply the act of those with evil intent. The Savior of the world is being sacrificed with eternal purpose.
