181. Jesus said to her, “I am the resurrection and the life” (John 11:25).
Martha, who has waited four days for Jesus, will wait no longer. The resurrection she has been taught will one day come is about to be revealed in her brother’s death. She knows that there is a future resurrection promised for those who love God, but on the day described in this chapter, a taste of that resurrection will touch her family. Lazarus will live! And the promise of resurrection for each of us lives as well. We, too, will not be held by death, but will live again. So today we wait. We wait for Jesus to come and we wait for the hope that we will one day rise to meet Him.
