Notes from the Journey with the Disciples – 173

173. Again, the Jews picked up stones to stone him (John 10:31).

Jesus’ as a good teacher isn’t threatening. But Jesus as the Son of God penetrates places we would rather keep hidden. When God shows up, we feel exposed. Truth can’t be ignored or explained away. What we are and what we desire are revealed for their shallowness. But throwing rocks to keep Him away seems ridiculous. Can you avoid the Holy Spirit’s conviction with a few stones? Can you really stop God with a rock? But like a child’s tantrum, we look for any means to resist. We don’t want Him to be God when the spotlight catches us. We don’t want to be judged ‘cause we know the likely decision. So rather than deal with Him, we throw stones.
