Jesus’ sheep are safe. They have put their trust in Him and followed His voice so He will lead the to still waters and abundant pasture. They are His. They are secure. While some will use these words to concoct a security that can be achieved with a single choice, the context suggests that this promise is for those who follow Him, who respond to His teaching with many choices to believe in Him and His words. The relationship between a salvation decision, daily life choices, and a place in Heaven has always challenged even the greatest thinkers, but clearly this moment with Jesus connects eternal life to the choice to be His sheep. We cannot run with wolves and dwell in the safety of His fold.
