Notes from the Journey with the Disciples – 163

163. “they will never follow a stranger” (John 10:5).

If only that were true. Perhaps sheep, an animal not recognized for its intelligence can tell the master’s voice from others, but people can’t seem to show such discernment. We tend to follow any carrot on a stick. Only through great discipline and determination do we find ourselves adhering clearly to the voice of our Master. But we must. How else will we find the life He has for us? How else will we discover the purpose and power He longs to demonstrate in our lives? We seem determined to try every other available path while our Master speaks softly to us to come His way. What kind of followers are we really?
