121. “How can the Christ come from Galilee?” (John 7:41).
No one expects God to show up in the life’s normal places. We think more easily think of God at the shrines we establish, but the radical message of the Incarnation is not just that He left heaven to come to earth. He also left the Temple to dwell inside with us and in us. In one sense, Galilee makes no sense, in that it’s small, largely hidden from any map of significance, and yet Galilee makes perfect sense when you see it’s filled with the most common of people. No king would make his home there. Galilee is just ordinary, so it’s the perfect spot from which God will demonstrate that He is no ordinary king.
