Notes from the Journey with David – 91

91. They had been invited as guests and went quite innocently (2 Samuel 15:11).
Two hundred men tagged along with Absalom as he headed to Hebron. They are unaware of his plans to crown himself king, but one wonders how they are close enough to get this invitation, but not close enough to see what is really happening. The point here is that you cannot trust someone who is disloyal to authority. Absalom’s scheming and criticisms of the king are the warning these men needed. Now they will be caught up in a treasonous journey, led to their fate by David’s rebellious son. Those who speak against leaders in authority open doors to all kinds of trouble. Absalom opened those doors wide enough to bring two hundred men through–men who failed to prioritize the integrity and loyalty demanded of a true leader.
