Notes from the Journey with David – 89

89. The daughter’s name was Tamar and she was a beautiful woman (2 Samuel 14:27).
Absalom’s lone daughter is named for the sister that Amnon defiled. This insight into the rage and hurt that drove Absalom’s life shows that in spite of the vengeance he gained by killing Amnon, Absalom is unsatisfied. Revenge never really satisfies. We try to get “even” but there is no “even.” Absalom’s anger cannot be satisfied, even by Amnon’s death. What we refuse to get past will remain in our windshield until it ultimately destroys everything we possess.
