Notes from the Journey with David – 65

65. The Lord himself will establish a house for you (2 Samuel 7:11).
David’s desire to build a house for God takes an interesting turn. Nathan the prophet reports that God hasn’t asked David for such a house (and ultimately Solomon will build it), but God rewards David with great promises for subjugating his desire for greatness to his worship of God. David won’t build a house for God, but God has promised to build one for him. While David’s warrior life may preclude him from crafting a holy place, God honors the heart of the one who worships him, even though the road to his kingdom has been rocky and significantly difficult. David has emerged from the journey with a growing confidence in God. That’s the real story here.
