Notes from the Journey with David – 50

50. The war between the house of Saul and the house of David lasted a long time (2 Samuel 3:1).
Transitions can be brutal. Even when you are the heir apparent, such news isn’t apparent to everyone. David had God’s promise, but God’s will isn’t always fulfilled in the immediate term. Men must choose it. So David’s battle to be king has lasted many years of pursuit by Saul and now war with his armies. David’s determination to fulfill his destiny kept him going forward, but his right to this throne must have felt frustrating as he, like Joseph centuries before, waited for the promise to be fulfilled.
