Notes from the Journey with David – 48

48. But Asahel refused to give up the pursuit (2 Samuel 2:23).
Asahel’s impetuousness will cost him his life. He chases Abner and cannot be dissuaded. Finally the more experienced Abner must put an end to the pursuit and he kills Asahel. Had Asahel been able to control his own emotions, he could have stopped himself from running into destruction. Asahel was known for his speed, but speed is of little value if you are running toward your death. Leaders must be in control of their emotions or they will run themselves into great trouble.
