Notes from the Journey with David – 109

109. Now Sheba son of Bicri will do us more harm than Absalom did (2 Samuel 20:6).
Has David learned a lesson or is his willingness to deal with Sheba more quickly than Absalom the result of the latter being his son? Hard to know for sure. When a leader fails to deal consistently with the behavior of his children, much is compromised. Sadly, David’s failure to act ultimately brought the struggle with Absalom to a tragic end. While leaders are understandably prone to extending additional grace to their children, the issues raised by their behavior must be dealt with. David could have dealt with Absalom without rejecting or destroying him. His failure to act in the early days of Absalom’s sin caused rejection and destruction to be the final reality.
