Notes from the Journey with the Disciples – 343

  1. “Throw your net on the other side of the boat and you will find some” (John 21:6).

So many of the teachings of Jesus run counter to expectation. We find life by losing it…meek inherit the earth…the greatest is the servant…and many, many more. Are we ready to live by such a code or will we join others in assuming that Jesus’ ways are our ways and His thoughts run comfortably alongside our own? The other side of the boat doesn’t make sense–not to fishermen or anyone else that knows it’s the same water, only a few feet away. This is a test of obedience…and then the miracle follows. Do it your way and you get what you can catch (on this occasion that amounted to nothing). But obey the unusual direction of a shepherd whose voice you know and the extraordinary is now within reach.
