Notes from the Journey with the Disciples – 283

  1. “It is for your good that I am going away” (John 16:7).

Little wonder such words were hard to receive. The idea that Jesus leaving them could be labeled “good” couldn’t have been their view. But this journey of faith depends on us learning to step forward in key moments, rather than shrinking back to stand behind Jesus. We all have a desire for God to be in control of our moments, but that leaves us doing little more than watching. Instead, God’s plan is for us to move forward in His name, to do the works He is doing, and to demonstrate a Spirit-empowered life. Jesus knew that His departure would open the path to such movement.
