Notes from the Journey with the Disciples – 260

  1. “he prunes, so that it will be more fruitful” (John 15:2).

Throughout my life, I have noticed that the journey of serving God isn’t a steady climb up some ministry ladder. Instead, the path of true growth seems to volley between visible, productive days and hidden, more challenging days. Sometimes even the doors of ministry that have opened sometimes push me to the forefront and other days have me “backstage.” This surely is the dance God must do with my pride. To allow me to continue to hurtle down the path of increasing notoriety likely would risk my soul. So He pulls back–he prunes–so that I remain his teachable pupil, keeping my focus on His unique intent and heart for those around me. It seems the real “ladder” of ministry success has very few rungs–and yet it will one day reach into the heavens.
