Notes from the Journey with the Disciples – 259

  1. “while every branch that does bear fruit he prunes…” (John 15:2).

This explains a lot. Why does God allow His best servants to face the most difficult challenges? Because His work must continually bore deeper and deeper into the hearts of His closest disciples. Those who truly long for the character of Christ know little of what they have desired at first. But as they draw closer and closer to Him and His purpose, the suffering, heartache, and brokenness that Jesus walked with each day begin to grow in them too. Jesus wasn’t only a man of peace or a man of overflowing joy. The Scriptures call Him a man of Sorrows–quite familiar with grief. If we want to be like Him, we must learn this as well.
