Notes from the Journey with the Disciples – 237

  1. “Don’t you know Me, Philip, even after I have been among you such a long time” (John 14:9)?

We should know Him by now. He has saved us, calmed our frightening moments, received our worship, and instructed us in eternal truth. Shouldn’t we know Him by now? The question is quite compelling. Surely, we should be more effective in following His path. Likely we should have moved farther down that road. Instead, many of us still seem like novices with His truth. We make the same mistakes, again and again, and beg for His help in the same mundane and trivial items of life. Why aren’t we progressing? Why don’t we know Him better? Is it because, like Philip, we simply refuse to accept the evidence before us? The disciples wanted to believe their eyes rather than their hearts, and such resistance kept them (for a time) from embracing the truth about Jesus–He is God with us.
