Notes from the Journey with the Disciples – 219

  1. “Do you understand what I have done for you” (John 13:12).

So often we don’t understand. We don’t watch Jesus closely, realizing that He wants us to do what He is doing. We decide to remake His purposes in the shape of our preferred paths. We want Jesus to do what we’re doing rather than realize He longs to turn us toward His behaviors. Who is Jesus? He is a Servant. And the only way you can follow a Servant is to do servant things. Those of us who seek after applause or appreciation for our ministry skill don’t understand what He wants to develop in us. Jesus washed their feet with the expectation that they would do likewise.
