Notes from the Journey with the Disciples – 156

156. the day on which Jesus had made mud and opened the man’s eyes was a Sabbath (John 9:14).

Unbelief will always scramble to maintain its opposition. Any fair reading of this story leaves one incredulous that such an amazing miracle would be resisted and criticized. But when people are opposed to something, they will fight to ridiculous ends to maintain their opposition. Never expect logic to win an emotional fight. But it’s usually best to let the crowd answer such foolishness. Here, the people can’t fathom that Jesus could do such an amazing miracle if he was a sinner. They see right through the complaints of the religious leaders. Ultimately, foolishness reveals fools. You don’t have to defend yourself or shine a light on their error ‘cause they tend to hold the lantern themselves.
