Notes from the Journey with the Disciples – 153

153. “wash in the pool of Siloam” (John 9:7).

Would you do as Jesus directs in order to receive your sight? It’s hard to imagine this blind man resisting Jesus’ plan, questioning the necessity of His instructions, or preferring to wash in some other pool. How could he possibly insist on his own path to healing? To have done so would cause centuries worth of readers to mock and ridicule his stubborn foolishness. And yet, in some way, those who insist on carving their own preferred path to life look just as ridiculous. Jesus has marked the path for all who would walk it. Repent and follow. Come after Him, obeying the things He has commanded, and you will find life abundant. Choose your own way and you will accumulate whatever you can generate for yourself. You don’t get sight until you find your way to Siloam!
