Notes from the Journey with the Disciples – 136

136. “When you have lifted up the Son of Man, you will know that I am the one that I claim to be” (John 8:28).

Here is the difference between faith and fact–fact always believes too late. fact requires the evidence, the ultimate proof in order to believe. In this case, Jesus meant that when they had killed Him, when the earthquake had shaken them and the darkness had surrounded them, then they would know what they currently wouldn’t believe. What would it have felt like to know you just killed God’s Son? That’s the result of a life that’s not open to faith. Faith attaches itself to hope and looks for reason to believe. Fact is always dissecting every bit of evidence, looking instead for reason not to believe.
