The Brotherhood – Part 139

The Brotherhood of the Second Cross was established on Father’s Day 2005 where 160 men stood before their wives and children to pledge themselves to purity, self-sacrifice, loyalty, and excellence. Today, hundreds more have joined the commitment.

The birth of my second grand-daughter last night is pretty much dominating my thoughts this morning. Some moments in life push the to-do list a thousand miles away…

Though I’m a three-day drive from that little girl and won’t get to see her ’til next month, my mind is already spinning with the things I want to do for her and teach her about life. Today, I’ll start a savings account for her so someday I can help her along in life. There’s just a lot to think about, and it’s fun thinking about it.

But my early thoughts have centered on the question of what will she learn from me? And, I think I can broaden that question beyond me and my grand-daughter to encompass you and whatever little lives are following you around.

My thoughts this morning have centered on one idea–the main thing your family will take forward from your life is who you are (or perhaps who they perceive you to be). Yes, they’ll remember moments and actions. They’ll recall when you did this or that, but the primary way you affect their futures is with your character, with what mattered most to you, with how they saw you treat people.

Strong character is a great gift to future generations. Watching our culture’s continued deterioration means they’ll probably need an example of right living to carry forward. Be the right man and you’ll give your kids and grandkids a foundation to build a better life on.

Never forget that who you are endures tends to endure longer than anything you do. I guess that’s what I had to say this morning. Now, I’m going back to look at more pictures…
