Notes from the Journey with the Disciples – 96

96. I tell you the truth, he who believes has everlasting life (John 6:47).

How hard would it have been to believe in Jesus? When I think of my reaction to those who seem outside the boundaries of the accepted, I can’t help wondering how I would have responded to Him. Sure, I live where centuries have affirmed and solidified the ideas. But how would I have done on the front edge of His coming? I fear my natural skepticism would have kept me back or at least kept Nathanael’s question in the forefront. How, indeed, could the son of God come from a place like Nazareth or be found among Galileans? Lest we criticize the first century too quickly, we should consider how difficult accepting Him might have been for ourselves.
