The Brotherhood – Part 93

The Brotherhood of the Second Cross was established on Father’s Day 2005 where 160 men stood before their wives and children to pledge themselves to purity, self-sacrifice, loyalty, and excellence. Today, hundreds more have joined the commitment.

Consistency is still the big winner.

A few years ago, a financial analyst showed me what could have happened if back in my twenties, I would have started depositing $20 a week into a savings account. I don’t remember the actual balance I would have ended up with at retirement, but it was somewhere near a gadzillion bucks. Okay, maybe a little less…

Well, first I wanted to know where this guy and his wisdom were when I was in my twenties. But, the second thought I had was about the power of consistency. What you do again and again reaps the largest harvests.

That’s a great principle of life. Faithfulness scores big. Do something–anything–again and again and you will maximize the results. Now, obviously, bad decisions made repeatedly don’t take you anywhere good, but consistently making good choices opens up amazing possibilities.

Now, that’s good to know–especially when you’re not seeing immediate results from your good decisions now. Be consistent, stay on course, do the faithful thing, and you’ll likely see the remarkable results, even before retirement.

I know that’s true in my writing. If I write for an hour or two a day, I am amazed at how quickly major projects can be completed. I have writer friends who are always hoping for that sudden inspiration that can turn a long weekend into a masterpiece. But consistently following a daily approach actually gets it done sooner and better than the miraculous cram session.

Do it well and do it everyday. That’s what faithfulness is all about. And the longer you stay faithful, the more a tidal wave of benefits begins to build.

So in every decision and relationship of your life, be consistent–be faithful to the right things. Others may seem to speed by you in their moments of intense focus, but your consistency will leave them in the dust down the road. Don’t believe me? Ask a legendary turtle who was celebrating at the finish line when a rabbit finally hopped into the picture.
