Notes from the Journey with the Disciples – 34

34. No one has ever gone into heaven, except the One… (John 3:13).

As the Apostle Paul would later say, “We see through a glass darkly.” Our thoughts of eternity are limited by a perspective that has no experience. We have not seen, but can only imagine. This is the nature of God’s truth and the faith it requires. We have not seen and cannot fully imagine, but we believe in the One who has come from there and find our hope in Him. This is what it means to believe in Jesus–to accept His testimony of truth and put our faith in the mission He undertook to purchase our salvation. When we think our works are sufficient, we think in earthly tones and are miles from heaven’s truth. Such thinking can only be rejected by the God who knows heaven’s ethic and has established eternity’s values.
