Notes from the Journey with the Disciples – 22

22. Now draw some out and take it to the master of the banquet (John 2:8).
There was nothing particularly special about the water of these ancient times. In fact, it was often unfit to drink. But Jesus directs them to take water from the wash basins to the master of the banquet so he might drink it. There must have been some force in Mary’s directive to “do whatever he tells you” because the servants took a very large risk here. How similar it is when we present ourselves to God in our ordinary, polluted condition. We have no business in His presence, much less in any manner useful to Him. And yet this is His plan–to take what is ordinary and unattractive in us and turn it into something remarkable.
