Notes from the Journey with David – 13

13. Look! The Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world (John 1:29).
The Gospel writer’s inclusion of the Baptist in his account has one purpose–to point the reader’s attention to the Christ. Yes, the message and baptizing he did matter, but only as a way to demonstrate his efforts to prepare people for the arrival of the one he now sees. John the Baptist’s function is now finding fulfillment as Jesus arrives for the unusual moment of His baptism. The point here is that the Baptist has no other purpose than pointing people to the One he now sees–and we have been given that same purpose.
