The Brotherhood – Part 75

The Brotherhood of the Second Cross was established on Father’s Day 2005 where 160 men stood before their wives and children to pledge themselves to purity, self-sacrifice, loyalty, and excellence. Today, hundreds more have joined the commitment.

Well, this is the week that everyone will be talking about goals. For many, New year’s resolutions will dominate thoughts. On the job, many will be required to submit work related goals and planning. A new year always comes with the need to plan some things and set targets to lead us to greater effectiveness.

But will you set goals that matter?

Don’t get me wrong, most goals are important. Sure, you want to exercise more and eat healthier. That way you can live longer and enjoy more years playing with your grandkids. And I’m sure there are some work goals that will make a difference in your productivity. After all, if you can complete one more project in this calendar year than last, well, someone will benefit.

But what about goals that truly impact who you are? How will you use a new year to grow yourself?

Think about how you will grow spiritually this year. What steps will you take to know God more and worship Him more genuinely? What habits can you cement in your life that will lead you to be more aware of Him and His plan?

How will you grow physically? Okay, I know that for many of us, not growing is more the goal. But how will you care for your body this year? Never forget that your body is connected to your mind and your spirit. If you neglect yourself physically, your capacity in every other area will diminish too.

How will you grow intellectually? What will you learn this year and how will you increase your capabilities? If you don’t have a plan for knowledge growth, you’ll likely become a little less sharp in the next twelve months, especially if you’ve already arrived at mid-life.

How will you live better? What lifestyle goals will you set or changes will you pursue? Put a few targets out there that can stretch you bit and make your life fuller.

Finally, what relationships will you cultivate? Now is the time to be the son, husband, or dad you intended to be. Excellence in relationships doesn’t just happen, but takes intentional effort. Without it, selfishness will become an easier target every day.

Set goals that matter and you can end up with a life that matters too.
