Notes from the Journey with David – 134

134. Today he has gone down and sacrificed great numbers of cattle (1 Kings 1:25).

There are no lasting leadership vacuums. If the right person isn’t on the throne, a wrong one quickly will be. David has failed to announce his successor so Adonijah has set himself up as king, sacrificing king-size numbers of animals to announce his own coronation. While David will rectify this situation, the lesson is seen in how quickly leadership roles will be grabbed when the chair seems to be empty. Usually those who grab aren’t the right leaders for the job.
