Notes from the Journey with David – 116

116. David sang to the Lord…when the Lord delivered him from the hand of all his enemies (2 Samuel 22:1).

As a leader moves forward, it can be easy to forget to reflect on where he’s been. There’s always the next battle to fight, the next hill to climb, the next cause to pursue. But taking time to consider how we’ve come this far can be a catalyst for solidifying our progress. For David, times of praise to God not only kept him aware of his Source, but also helped build a more solid wall at his back so he wouldn’t later lose ground. That’s what praise often does. It solidifies us at the new level and gives us the wisdom and strength we need to trust God for the next step in the journey. When we are ungrateful, God often allows us to lose the ground we thought we had gained.
