Notes from the Journey with David – 97

97. This plan seemed good to Absalom and to all the elders (2 Samuel 17:4).
Ahithophel’s advice to attack David quickly finds a happy acceptance among Absalom’s group. Frankly, when an advisor tells you what you want to hear, well, most of us are quick to accept the advice. What is most sad here is that Ahithophel had been a trusted man for David and viewed as a clear voice for God. Now that voice has cast a spell over Absalom. Even the most godly among us can be drawn into the political games of leadership. Human nature never ceases to raise its ugly head, even among those deemed most spiritual. Had Ahithophel truly known God’s heart, he would have counseled Absalom away from this rebellion rather than fuel it with his advice.
