The Brotherhood – Part 42

The Brotherhood of the Second Cross was established on Father’s Day 2005 where 160 men stood before their wives and children to pledge themselves to purity, self-sacrifice, loyalty, and excellence. Today, hundreds more have joined the commitment.

What have you learned lately?

One of the habits I tried to develop years ago, is to make a list of things learned at the conclusion of a big project, job, or other time of transition. I’ve always believed that the lessons in life “stick” better if we intentionally collect life’s content in written form.

In fact, I’ve come to believe that if I don’t reflect on lessons learned, I tend to have to relearn them, which seems inefficient and usually painful. You’ve heard it said that those who don’t learn from history are bound to repeat it.

Reflection IS a powerful learning tool. In fact, I believe it’s a part of God’s intended Sabbath activities for us. Sabbath is designed as a time of worship and rest, but I don’t think God’s plan was a day of napping, interrupted by occasional outbursts in song. Reflection seems intended to be a huge part of the refueling a Sabbath practice can bring.

So let me encourage you to learn from yesterday, from the past week, and from the big experiences you’ve come through. A good way to do this can involve a journal where yesterday’s lessons can be recorded for future use.

Don’t spend your life relearning the same stuff again and again…
