Notes from the Journey with David – 83

83. Then Amnon hated her with an intense hatred (2 Samuel 13:15).
Tamar went from being the object of Amnon’s affection to the reminder of his wickedness. In an uncontrolled moment of what he thought was passion, Amnon discovered that he was not the man he had imagined. Tamar’s unwillingness to respond to his feelings for her caused him to hate her, but I would imagine the real issue is his hatred of himself. When leaders act on their impulses and use their privilege to take advantage of others, they erase the gap between themselves and those they look down on. They cease to be the person that others had thought them to be. And for many, the fall from such a perch is overwhelming.
