74. Let us fight bravely…the Lord will do what is good in his sight (2 Samuel 10:12).
Has David’s trust in God begun to rub off on Joab, his military leader? Throughout much of the biblical text, Joab demonstrates his trust in his great strength and military prowess, but now he utters words more likely to be spoken by his king or by one of the prophets. As a leader, few moments are more rewarding than when you hear your values coming from the mouths of those you lead. Joab has learned of God’s provision and control from David, and now uses such insights in drawing up his battle plans. This moment demonstrates the discovery a strong man has made of a God who is even stronger. His leader has shown him that.
