Notes from the Journey with David – 62

62. She despised him in her heart (2 Samuel 6:16).
What was Michal’s issue with David’s dancing? Was her anger at his rejoicing a growing remnant of her resentment toward David taking the throne from her family or had she grown accustomed to royal life and now hated David for acting like a peasant in his worship? While both could be in play, the latter is the most likely. Leaders who grow too familiar with being treated in special ways not only open themselves to such prideful attitudes, but they lose the critical opportunity to enjoy the blessings only humility can bring. David wearing a linen ephod was a symbol of that humility as he wanted to bring the Ark to Jerusalem with the greatest care.
